VIGGO"S CAN NO LONGER REPLY TO FAN MAIL!!(NEW)

Over the years I have made the effort to read and answer every piece of fan mail that I
received. Lately, however, the volume of mail has increased significantly making it
practically impossible to keep up with it all and to respond to each piece personally.
Although I am grateful for the favorable response that those of us involved in the "Lord
of the Rings" trilogy have had, it is simply become a bit overwhelming. I find that I have
little or no time left for other pursuits and have little free time left for art projects or for
spending time with friends and family.
Therefore, as I do not wish to have mail answered for me by others, I have no choice but to
say that I will no longer be accepting fan mail after October 31, 2002.
Please do not send anymore letters or cards as it will not be answered. I will, however,
continue to honor requests for autographs in person as I have always done.
I thank you for your support and kind thoughts.

As previously reported, on July 12th Viggo appeared both at the Robert Mann Gallery & at a poetry reading at the Housing Works Used Book Cafe
in NY. Both events were big hits & as one online fan commented 'Viggo single handedly managed to bring tourism back to NY.

VIGGO IN MOROCCO! (NEW)
On July 13th , the day after his NY appearances Viggo & presumably his son Henry boarded a plane to Morocco. This 4 months trip signifies the start of filming for Viggo's new movie 'HIDALGO'

VIGGO's NEW BOOKS' SALE STALLED (NEW)
To the disappointment of many the online sale of Viggo's new books "Coincidence Of Memory" & "Hole In The Sun"
have been postponed at the new "Percival Press" web site due to technical problems.
Though word on the grapevine says that they will be available for sale at the web site for the Robert Mann Gallery soon.

It's been confirmed that Viggo will have a new art exhibit at te Robert Mann gallery in New York starting July 11th.

As of yet the Mann Gallery is unsure if the exhibit premier will be open to the public. I'll add more info a it becomes available.
NEW VIGGO MOVIE "HIDALGO"(NEW)
After many rumors & speculations about Viggo's possible next movie role it seems Viggo has chosen the lead in "Hidalgo". This is a historical, action western based on the real life story of "Frank T. Hopkins"
Set in 1890, this is the story of a Pony
Express courier (Mortensen) who travels to Saudi Arabia
to compete with his horse, Hidalgo, in a dangerous race
for a massive contest prize, in an adventure that sends
the pair around the world...
The film scheduled to start production this summer is being released by Touchstone Pictures (Owned by Disney)
is directed by Joe Johnston (Jurassic
Park III, October
Sky, Jumanji, The Rocketeer &)
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids), it's screen play is written by John Fusco (Thunderheart,
Young Guns, Young Guns II, Loch Ness,
The Babe) and has an estimated budget of $50 million. It is tentatively scheduled for release the summer of 2003.

The Bafta Awards On US TV!!(NEW)
The Bafta's (BRITISH ACADEMY FILM AND TV WARDS) has nominated LOTR in several categories including 'best director' & best film,
Viggo was not nominated but several of his co-stars were. Go to the BAFTA web site

NEW Aragorn Video Game!!(NEW)
In the fall of 2002 in conjunction with the release of "The Two Towers' Electronic Arts will be creating a 3rd person action/adventure game starring Aragorn.
It will feature many of the books' & movie's characters & the environments will parallel scenes from the movies. The game, still in production, will require strategy as well as strength to maneuver the highly detailed 3d enviorments.

Viggo overlooked by Oscars(NEW)
Sadly its true, but Fellowship Of The Rings was not! Its recieved 13 nominations
included best picture, best
director (Peter Jackson), best musical score (Howard Shore), best cinematography (Andrew Lesnie) and
best supporting actor (Ian McKellen).
Fellowship Of the Ring Still Strong At The Box Office (NEW)
In US Box office Fellowship is still #11, which is ok, but considering how long its been on that list, its pritty darn great!
World wide the film has already made an estimated 400 million dollars, bringing its box office total to 7 million, & it is still making money.
The original budget for the entire LOTR trilogy including maketing was 150 million.

Viggo To Do Two New Movies Soon!!??
Suprisingly Viggo has already started considering new film roles. What isn't a shock is that neither is a main stream film.
When Viggo was in Denmark in December, he confirmed that he was considering the lead in a
Danish movie called "Fodboldenglen" (=the angel of football), a Danish cult-classic about
football (soccer) and friendship. He was reading manuscript. The only other comment he made
was: I will not rule out that I accept the part, but let's see".
And yesterday the
French version of "People" magazine, "Voici", ran a tiny article saying that Viggo
Mortensen had been cast as Madman in the upcoming film version based on the genius comic book by director Robert Rodriguez.

UPDATE apparently People mag jumped the gun. Viggo has been mentioned to the
MadMan movie director, but the director isn't even sure if he's making the film
much less who will star.
Viggo Receives two Nominations & A Prediction
Well it's about time don't you think? After being overlooked by other awards & LOTR being snubbed by the Golden Globes, we needed some positive news.
Viggo has been nominated for best actor by the UK's Emprire Awards here
and for best supporting actor by the US's FFCC Awards here. And in a stunning
prediction the LA times yesterday ran an article showing Viggo as a strong supporting actor contender at the upcoming Oscars read about it here

About Viggo Fan Mail
there has been some concern about the news that 'The Rawlins Company' which handles
Viggo's fan mail will no longer accept letters, only post cards. I've received emails
asking about this.
From my source:
"Viggo says he will still receive those letters (letters already sent to him), but would prefer the
postcards. He just cannot keep up with the mail these days. And the
answer to the photo question is no, he can longer handle such requests
(such as sending him a picture or other object for him to autograph, even if a SASE is included) ."
We can still send postcards & Viggo as always will answer them.
New Viggo Poetry Book & Art Exhibit??
In several recent interviews Viggo has made known that a new book of only his poetry will be coming out later in the year.
And that another art exhibit other than the 'Sign Language' exhibit is also planned for later this year. Viggo's new music CD
is still being worked on. We have much to look forward too.
The Golden Globes: Business As Usual.
On January 20th the Golden Globes snubbed LORT in every one of its 4
nominations:
Director Motion Picture - Peter Jackson
Best Dramatic Film - Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
Best Original Score - Howard Shore
Best Original Song - May it Be - Enya
But what was worse was the reason given for the snubb "it made too much money & the
voters were looking to the more artistic films".. This statement is blatant stupidity since first:
the movie Titanic which made the most money of all time won 4 of it's 8 nominations and second: Fellowship was the most artistic movie
nominated this year. Once again these awards show themselves as nothing more than the popularity contest they are.
Viggo Attends Fellowship Premier in Denmark!
On December 19th Viggo attended the premier of Fellowship Of The Rings in Denmark. Viggo is part Danish on his fathers side.

LOTR STILL TOP 3rd AT BOX OFFICE!!
It seems Fellowship Of the Rings is still going strong at the box office. It's still going strong as
number 3 this weekend, after spending 4 weeks at number 1. At this point the film has grossed
250 million in the US and another 300 million internationally. Bravo!!
