Two cigarette butts in it, soaking greasy.
Half a bottle of flat water.
A struggling mosquito in it,and a drowned one.
A tall glass with a saturated, sunwarmed lemon rid
at its dry bottom.
Lipstick all around the rim.
Suntan lotion finger marks and smears around
the middle.
Magazines, a pile of glossy ones.
Women's magazines telling you what to buy,
how to look at yourself.
Movie magazines telling you what to see, where
to wish yourself.
An off-white push-button telephone/answering
machine,red light flashing.
The extension cord travels in the finely raked
dirt,
under the hedge,into the roses.
An airplane,propellers schoing miles away,
over the water.
A seagull shrieks once as it settles on the
garage roof.
