The Script
-The screen-play of the trilogy is a three year combined effort by Peter Jackson, Frances Walsh (his wife), Stephen Sinclair and Philippa Boyens. Their approach to this immensely difficult task was to treat the adaptation not as a work of 'fantasy' but as a work of 'pre-history'. The books contain a huge amount of material including many interacting storylines, narratives and character sagas. Telling the story effectively with the two hour, 50 minute limit of each film requires delicate changes.
General Changes From The Books
- Funnier dialogue will be added especially between Legolas & Gimli.
- Sam talks to Frodo as a peer and not as a servant as in the books.
- The story lines will intertwining unlike in the books were each one has a chapter.
- The movies will not end exactly where each book ends.
- The love story between Aragorn and Arwen is expanded on.
- Arwen's character is enlarged though she is not a member of the fellowship.
- Sauron will have a more active involvement within the story.
- Events told in flash backs during the stories will be told visually in the movies.
- Few of the songs in the books will be in the movies.
- The character of Tom Bombadil is gone from the films.
- Borimor's death scene will be at the end of "fellowship" instead of at the begining of "The Two Towers" - The events at Rivedell will be shortened and made more concise.
- The Black Rider's horses are brown, not black because they look better on film.
