He established Rivendell as a refuge for his Elven people against Sauron and has been it's king ever since. He is the father of Arwen Evenstar, and a foster father to Aragorn. It is he who objects to Aragorn and Arwen's wedding since it would mean Arwen giving up her immortality and dying as a human. Elrond reveals to Aragorn his true heritage and encourages him to reclaim what is rightfully his. Elrond like Gladriel is a ring bearer, he wears 'Vilya' the Ring of Air. He is also a legendary healer and guardian of vast Elven lore. Elron calls a council at Rivendell of representatives from all of Middle Earth's free peoples to decide what is to be done about Frodo's 'One Ring' of total rule. This is where the 'Fellowship' is formed.
