I brought my two books up for him to sign, and asked if he would sign Recent Forgeries too. He looked a little surprised, and said, “Where did you get this? It is out of print, you know!” And I told him, proudly, that I had bought right before it went out of print, and was so happy that I have it! I then uttered stupidly, “I love your work.” And he signed Recent Forgeries, and then instructed that I hold it open so the marker would dry. He signed, “Thanks, Deb, (heart) Viggo” and then he signed Sign Language, “Thanks again, Deb, (heart) Viggo.” I then quietly asked if I could have my picture taken with him, to which he replied, “Of course you can!” I moved around to the other side of the table, and stood next to him. Then he put his arm on my shoulder, and I put my hand on his back. I love the picture! Then I started to move away, and he said, “Don’t forget a postcard!” So I grabbed one without looking at what I was choosing! I was SOOO nervous; I was in my flight mode, scared that I would do something to embarrass myself!

I moved to the side, and watched as Madeline talked with him, and as she helped him to move the table. Viggo was very insistent that everyone was inside the building and wanted the table moved to make more room for those caught outside in the rain. I asked my friend for my camera so I could get a better view of Madeline giving Viggo her photos and started taking pictures. Chutney had told me she thought we were out of film, but I could have sworn there were two more pictures left! And it turns out she was right, so I didn’t end up getting better shots of Madeline.

As I turned away, I noticed Pilar. I knew of her from Many Faces of Viggo message boards, and without thinking I asked if she were Pilar. She said yes, and I told her that I had heard so many wonderful things about her from people who had met her, and talked to her a little about two of the women from that board that had recently driven out to Santa Monica to see the showing at Track 16. Pilar mentioned that she had talked to several people from the Musings board, and I commented that I had been trying to find them since I had gotten there and wanted to meet them. She also mentioned that she reads the message boards, and asked my name. Now, I gave her my screen name rather then my real name, and felt stupid afterwards!
